Red light therapy (RLT) is a known as a therapeutic technique that uses red low-level wavelengths of light to treat skin issues, such as wrinkles, scars, and persistent wounds, among other health conditions. According to Dr Jared Jagdeo, MD, the founding director of the Center for Photomedicine at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in Brooklyn, New York, in an article by everyday health, "Red light therapy (RLT) is a type of photomedicine, which is “the use of light to treat skin and other health conditions,”
The possibilities of using red light therapy to treat a variety of health and aesthetic concerns are quickly emerging thanks to interest from researchers, universities, and hospitals around the world.
When photons (particles of light) are placed near the skin they enter tissues and activate chromophores which triggers changes in cells, according to the American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery. Red light therapy also affects the mitochondria (the powerhouse of cells), generating ATP (energy) to promote healing, notes the PBM Foundation.
The most common benefits from RLT are for the skin.
Acne, anti-aging, redness and irritation and more. However, research and popularity is growing in the areas of rehabilitation from injury, wound healing, decreasing pain and even decreasing the side effects of other medical treatments as it reaches deep cellular levels.
Although additional research is still being done, there is plenty of evidence that suggests RLT :
Detoxification, pain relief, improved skin conditions, enhanced mood, better respiratory health, and boosted immune system health are just a few of the many health benefits you will experience when combining the powerful detoxifying properties of infrared therapy with the healing benefits of halotherapy.
